3 Simple changes to enjoy motherhood When it Feels Hard To

You love being at home with your kids. You’ve dreamt of this moment…or maybe it just kind of happened. Regardless, the time is finally here. There’s a part of you that doesn’t fully enjoy motherhood. You don’t realize it, but slowly you start to drift. You take any opportunity you can to run away to things you think will satisfy your soul, yet they only leave you feeling more empty. You know this isn’t at ALL the vision God has for you as a mom. You know that His plan for you IS to enjoy motherhood- But HOW? What gift does He have for you that seems to be hidden in the daily work of motherhood?

The secret to enjoy motherhood

Rest. In the uncertainty. Rest in the guilt. Embrace the overwhelm. Sometimes as mamas we are afraid to tell God our true feelings- as if he doesn’t already know!! God knows exactly how we feel, and He wants to free us from this feeling! We can run towards Him WITH our kids in hand! Truly, our kids aren’t the reason we can’t enjoy motherhood. The reality is that there may be things that we need to adjust whether it’s our mindset, home, or overall well being. Rest in the simple fact that even when we aren’t enjoying every moment God is with us. We can run towards Him, He is willing to guide us.

So, Why is it hard enjoy motherhood?

Motherhood can be quite confusing. Feelings of gratitude, exhaustion, discouragement and joy can creep up all at once. Why do the bulk of our days feel so exhausting and discouraging? How can we be more thankful and FULL of joy? Well practically mamas, we can often be the ones blocking the blessing that God has for us to enjoy motherhood. Here’s how:

  • We lack boundaries on our screen time
  • We lack a good routine at home leaving us overwhelmed
  • We aren’t prioritizing our time with the Lord
  • We aren’t confident in our motherhood, and it bleeds into our everyday
  • We are simply tired and letting it get the best of us

Well the good thing is, bad habits can only be replaced with good ones:

  • Read a bible verse or a good book when you have the urge to scroll
  • Make one goal a day to jumpstart more rhythms in your home
  • Tag a chore with a prayer to help you pray over your home
  • Surround yourself with mamas who will encourage you
  • Prioritize your rest. When lacking, rest in the fact that God is willing to take your load that day

A fresh perspective on waking up early-How it really can benefit the home

We are all well aware of how waking up early can catapult you in your motherhood journey. While there is fruit to that- we need to have a pretty good “Why” if we are going to keep it up. Heres some good why’s to waking up early:

  • To spend time with the Lord, possibly before the kids arise
  • To invest in your body – working out, stretching
  • To prepare your home- activity planning, meal planning
  • To pray over your home before the kids arise
  • To work- if you are a work from home mama
  • To spend a little extra time with your husband
  • To get a head start on household chores
  • To find a moment of rest before the entire house is awake

The idea is that we don’t wake up early to have time away from our kids. We wake up early to meet with the Lord, to prepare our homes, to prepare our mind and bodies for a new day! If a kid wakes up early with us, we can consider it a blessing that the Lord has entrusted us with them. We can use it as a time to pray with them. And we can also put on a little Tv show while we get stuff done (because mom life!) What a blessing it is to be loved!

Shifting our mindset to embrace motherhood even when circumstances don’t match the expectations we had in mind will free us from feeling overwhelmed with all that motherhood brings.

Where to start? 3 simple steps (Recap)

  • Rest. God knows our struggles and running away from Him will only leave us feeling more empty.
  • Evaluate our habits. Replace the unfruitful habits with more desirable ones.
  • Work on shifting our mindsets. Motherhood can be fulfilling and simple if we just let it. Sometimes our own mindsets get in the way of embracing the hard moments.
